121surveys: What it is

Companies, universities and organisations use 121surveys to create, distribute and analyse surveys: customer surveys, employee surveys, market research, product and price tests, course evaluations, quizzes and exams with certificates, and live polls at events.

You distribute your surveys via a public link or QR code, personal email invitations with reminders, and channels with separate analysis. You can analyse them in the application itself — with statistics, cross-tabulations, segment comparisons and AI analysis of open answers — and in reports, presentations and exports.

121surveys: Question types and methods

Besides classic question types (choice, scales, matrix, ranking, sliders, free text, file upload, signature), 121surveys includes methods from market and pricing research. For each method a built-in method guide explains what it is good for, how many responses it needs and where its limits lie:

  • Satisfaction and loyalty: Net Promoter Score (NPS), Customer Satisfaction (CSAT), Customer Effort Score (CES), and eNPS and pulse checks for employees.
  • Conjoint analysis in several answer formats, plus “Build your own” (menu-based conjoint) — see the next section.
  • MaxDiff (best-worst scaling): an importance ranking from repeated choices of the most and least important item, analysed by counts and Hierarchical Bayes.
  • Kano model: classifies product features by their effect on satisfaction, for example as basic, performance or delight features.
  • Pricing research: Van Westendorp (Price Sensitivity Meter), Gabor-Granger and Brand-Price Trade-Off.
  • Further methods: claims test, image A/B test, semantic differential and heatmap on images.

121surveys: Conjoint analysis

Conjoint analysis measures which features of an offer drive the choice and what a feature level is worth to respondents. Respondents choose between offers made up of features and levels; 121surveys assembles the tasks anew for each person.

  • Answer formats: choose one offer (choice-based conjoint), pick the best and the worst offer (best-worst conjoint), allocate points across the offers, compare two offers on a seven-point scale, or answer adaptively — first build a preferred package, then screen similar offers, then let the acceptable ones compete in a tournament (adaptive CBC).
  • Partial profiles: with many features, each task shows only some of them; individual features such as the price can be shown in every task. The editor recommends a minimum number of respondents.
  • If no offer fits: either a “None of these” option or a two-step answer that asks after the choice whether the person would actually take the offer. From this the analysis reports the purchase intent.
  • Display: offers as cards, table, rows, carousel or shelf; features with an explanation for respondents, images and a highlighted price; values that are the same in all offers can be dimmed.
  • Analysis: importance of features, part-worth utilities of levels, willingness to pay per level in the currency of the price feature, a market simulator and segment comparison. Depending on the number of responses, 121surveys estimates using counts, a logit model or Hierarchical Bayes; Hierarchical Bayes runs in the background and flags results that are not reliable.
  • “Build your own” (menu-based conjoint): respondents choose a base package and optional add-on modules at varying prices. The analysis shows choice rates per price and a price simulator with base package shares, module take rates and revenue per person.
  • Through the MCP server, conjoint questions can be created, results retrieved and markets simulated; the REST API returns the results of a conjoint question.

121surveys: Limits of the conjoint analysis

The shares in the market simulator are choice shares among respondents, not a forecast of market shares. Willingness to pay is based on a linear price effect and applies only within the tested price range. In “Build your own”, the model considers each add-on module on its own; it does not capture whether modules substitute for each other.

121surveys: Who it is for

Market research and product management

Teams that test products, packages and prices — with conjoint analysis, MaxDiff, the Kano model and pricing research, without their own statistics software.

Typical questions

  • Which features decide whether customers choose our offer?
  • How much more would they pay for a longer warranty?
  • Which add-on modules would they add, and at what price?

Customer experience and service

Anyone measuring satisfaction — after a purchase, after a service contact or regularly — with NPS, CSAT and CES, email invitations with reminders and comparison across several survey waves.

Typical questions

  • How has our NPS changed since the last survey?
  • What do dissatisfied customers write in their open answers?

HR and internal communication

Employee surveys and pulse checks with eNPS, analysis by organisational unit with a minimum group size to protect anonymity, and tools for anonymisation.

Typical questions

  • How satisfied are our employees, and where do the teams differ?
  • Would they recommend us as an employer?

Education, training and events

Course evaluations, quizzes and exams with a PDF certificate, and live polls and live quizzes that the audience joins with a code or QR code.

Typical questions

  • How do participants rate our course?
  • Who passed the exam and receives a certificate?

Agencies and consultancies

Anyone running surveys for clients separates their projects into tenants with their own surveys, data and analyses — with the client's logo and colours and, if desired, under the client's domain.

Typical questions

  • Can we set up a separate area with its own branding for each client?
  • How do we share a report with a client without giving them access to the account?

Development and automation

Programs and AI assistants create surveys, distribute them and retrieve results via the REST API and MCP server; webhooks report completed responses to your own systems.

Typical questions

  • Can an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT create and analyse surveys in our account?
  • How do new responses get into our CRM automatically?

121surveys: What it is not

What it is not

  • not a panel provider: 121surveys does not supply respondents; customers invite their participants themselves.
  • not a market research agency: customers plan, run and interpret their studies themselves; 121surveys provides the tool and guidance on the methods.
  • not a tool for forecasting market shares: simulator shares describe respondents' choices, not the market.

Not to be confused with

121WATT
121WATT GmbH in Munich offers training in online marketing. The operator of 121surveys is 121 Apps GmbH.
121assist
121assist is a separate product of 121 Apps GmbH for AI-assisted customer support. 121surveys uses it for its support chat; it does not include surveys.

121surveys: Frequently asked questions

How much does 121surveys cost?

In the free plan “Test”, you can fully build and test surveys but not publish them. To publish, you need a paid plan (Einzel, Team, and Mandant). Every plan includes all features; prices are listed on the pricing page.

Where is the data stored?

The application and database run on a server in a data centre in Leipzig, Germany. We encrypt backups before upload and store them in Amsterdam. The table “Made & hosted in Europe” shows which other services are involved.

Can 121surveys run conjoint analyses?

Yes, in every plan: choice-based conjoint, best-worst conjoint, point allocation, graded paired comparison, adaptive CBC and “Build your own” (menu-based conjoint), with partial profiles, two-step purchase intent, Hierarchical Bayes, willingness to pay and a market simulator.

Is there an API?

Yes: a REST API and an MCP server (Model Context Protocol) through which AI assistants such as Claude create and analyse surveys. Access uses API keys or OAuth with separate permissions for reading, writing and deleting; the documentation is on the developer page.

Which AI does 121surveys use?

The AI features work with the provider the customer chooses — OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral or Google Gemini — and with the customer's own API key. 121surveys does not use a key of its own for customer data.

Does 121surveys provide respondents?

No. Customers reach participants themselves — via a link, a QR code, email invitations or their own channels.

In which languages is 121surveys available?

The interface is available in these languages: Dansk, Deutsch, English, Español, Français, Italiano, Nederlands, Norsk, Polski, Português, and Svenska. Surveys can be translated into several languages, optionally with AI.

Is 121surveys suitable for surveys under the GDPR?

121surveys concludes a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR with customers, hosts in Germany and offers IP anonymisation, consent texts, retention periods, anonymisation and an audit log. Whether a survey is lawful is decided by the customer as the controller.
